What Is Gallic Acid?
Propyl Gallate is a preservative commonly used as an antioxidant in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. It is an ester compound formed by propyl and gallic acid. Propyl Gallate is primarily employed to prevent the oxidation of fats and oils in food and other products, thereby extending their shelf life. Propyl gallate appears as fine white to creamy-white crystalline powder. Odorless or with a faint odor. Melting point 150 °C. Insoluble in water. Slightly bitter taste.
